Day 3 in Kyoto (Part 1)

Wow it's been way too long since I posted about Japan, even though it should've been done a long time ago. Better late than never, though.

On this day we put our Shinkansen (Bullet Train) rail passes to good use. The train ride from Tokyo to Kyoto was about 3 hours, yet is the same distance as SF to LA. Japanese efficiency at its finest!

Since there was so much traveling and exploring in so little time, I decided to split up the photos I took between a few posts.

To start, we visited the Golden Temple in Kyoto - the gold color is due to its underlying Japanese meaning: it mitigates and purifies any pollution or negative thoughts and feelings toward death.

Kyoto is quite the opposite of Tokyo and retains most of the traditional Japanese culture..the entire city is like a history museum.
